Volunteers

Hello Vikings,

The volunteer schedule has been posted on our website.  While we recognize that not everyone got their first or even second choice, the reality is that with 160 families to accommodate, this was not a simple task.  Please note that the schedule is set.  There will be no changes made.

The responsibilities for each job are found in the “Game day” tab.  Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the duties prior to showing up for your shift.  Please note, timekeepers and scorekeepers will be given training prior to the first game.  Please present yourself to the canteen 30 minutes prior to the start of the game to meet your team manager.

It is your responsibility to check to see when you are scheduled, and to be there to complete your commitment.  If you are unable to be present to complete your assignment, it is your responsibility to find a replacement and to send an email to your team manger and registration@afmo-omfa.ca informing the Club of your replacement at least 24 hours in advance.  Failure to appear will result in the forfeiture of your $100 bond.

If your name does not appear on the schedule, and you intended to volunteer, please send an email to registration@afmo-omfa.ca and we will find you a job.  If you are not interested in volunteering, and would like to forfeit your bond, feel free to let us know that as well.

Volunteer Coordinator

1. Stick Crew

• There are 3 volunteers per level for each home game.
• The volunteer must commit to all 4 home games.
• The volunteer must be present on the field 20 minutes before the start of the game to meet with the referee and receive instructions.
• The job of stick crew is to mark the position of the ball, the downs, the number of yards to a first down, and the line of scrimmage for each play.

2. Field Setup

• The volunteers must arrive at the field one hour before the start of the first game (usually a Tyke game).
• The volunteers commit to the 4 home games. Their tasks include :
  • Placing the protective covers on the goal posts;
  • Ensure that the sticks and chains are on the side of the field at least 30 minutes before the start of the game;
  • Set up the canteen, following the direction of the canteen manager.
  • Set out the field markers, etc for marking the end zone and the size of the field.

2. Field Setup**

• After the Atome game, the field needs to be converted to a standard football field.  All the field markers need to be moved to the appropriate location. The end zone markers need to be moved.

3. Field Clean up

• After the last game of the day, collect all on field markers, banners, padding and place in the pod.
• Help to take down the canteen and assist in returning all equipment and stock to the pod.
• Ensure that the field surface is clean (i.e. no stray water bottles).
• Do not leave until everything is clean and properly stored.

4. Timekeeper

• There is one timekeeper per level. They commit to all 4 home games.
• Keep time during the game, following the referees instructions.
• Must be present on the field 15 minutes prior to the start if the game to receive instructions from the referees.

5. Canteen

• Specific roles are assigned by the canteen manager at the start of the game. Examples of tasks include bbqing, handling cash, getting drinks/chips, etc.

6. Canteen **

• Same as Canteen, but your shift starts one hour before the start of your game and your shift ends at the start of the 3rd quarter of  your game.

7. Scorekeeper

• Each team will have 1 scorekeeper. Given the nature of the task, the volunteer commits for tall home games (4 games).
• Before the game:
  • Give the game sheet to the opposing team 30 minutes prior to the start of the game to allow them to add their information;
  • Get the referees to complete their section of the score sheet; and
  • Get the athletic therapist and secouriste(s) t0 sign the score sheet
• During the game:
  • record all scoring plays during the game on the score sheet;
  • record all major penalties during the game on the score sheet; and
  • record all injuries where the play is stopped (team, jersey #) on the sheet provided
• After the game:
  • Get the head referee to sign the score sheet
  • Give the visiting team the pink copy of the score sheet
  • Give the referee the yellow copy of the score sheet
  • Give the Vikings manager the white copy of the score sheet

8. Washing team jerseys

• There are 2 volunteers per team (1 at Tyke);
• The volunteers MUST wash the jerseys according to the instructions given – jerseys may NOT go in a dryer;
• The volunteer must return the jerseys to the team manager at beginning of each match, and collect them at the end of each match.
• Volunteers must commit to the entire season.

9. Ice

• Responsible for the team cooler.
• The volunteer will bring ice to every practice and game.

10. 50/50

• Collect the bucket, bibs, tickets from the canteen at the start of the game.
• Start selling immediately and until the end of the 3rd quarter.
• Draw for the winner in the 4th quarter.
• Winner gets 50%. The other 50% goes into the cashbox in the canteen and is recorded in the notebook.
